Caring for students—from their heads to their hearts to their financial well-being

Rest assured that your student will be well cared for at the University of Iowa. There are many campus resources dedicated to helping your student succeed—both inside and outside the classroom. Here are just a few:

Academic

The Academic Resource Center provides Supplemental Instruction (SI) for a variety of courses throughout the year. These small-group study sessions are facilitated by a peer leader who has excelled in their subject area. Students do not need to sign up in advance for these free sessions. See uc.uiowa.edu/student-success/arc for more information.

The Tutor Iowa website, at tutor.uiowa.edu, offers a one-stop shop for academic help. Students can find private tutors, read a treasure trove of tips and strategies for achieving success in the classroom, and much more.

Crisis

Offered through the Office of the Dean of Students, Student Care and Assistance serves students who are experiencing crisis and emergency situations, including hospitalization, natural disasters, unexpected challenges, and more. See dos.uiowa.edu/assistance for more details.

Financial

If students need guidance on managing their spending, Financial Literacy Services is available to help. Students can schedule individual meetings in MyUI to assist with financial aid, budgeting, understanding credit, loan repayment, and more. Additional info is available at bit.ly/uifls or by emailing financial-literacy@uiowa.edu.

Health and Counseling

Through two main clinics and several additional locations, University Counseling Service is the university’s primary mental health service provider for students. It offers individual and group counseling sessions, support groups, embedded therapists in the residence halls, and career assessment and testing services, as well as a number of other services that support student success. Find out more at counseling.uiowa.edu.

Student Health provides the same medical care a student would receive in their hometown. Services include routine lab procedures, immunizations, allergy treatment, mental health care, gynecological exams, and more. See studenthealth.uiowa.edu for details.

Student Wellness offers appointments, group workshops, events, and other programming on nutrition, fitness, stress management, alcohol and drugs, tobacco/e-cigarettes, sexual health, and sleep. Learn more at studentwellness.uiowa.edu.

Staff members at Student Disability Services work with students and faculty to coordinate accommodations for entitled students under federal legislation. Their office is located in Burge Hall. To learn more, visit sds.studentlife.uiowa.edu.

Recreational Services offers four recreation facilities on campus where students can access exercise equipment, intramural sports, group fitness classes, and more. Memberships are included in tuition and fees. See more at recserv.uiowa.edu.

Social

Students can make a social connection right away by joining one of more than 500 student organizations. If there isn’t one to suit their interests, they can start their own. More details are at csil.uiowa.edu.

The four UI Cultural Centers complement the academic mission of the University by enhancing students' experience inside and outside of the classroom. They are the African-American Cultural Center, the Asian-Pacific American Cultural Center, the Pride Alliance Center, and the Latino Native American Cultural Center. Learn more about them at multicultural.uiowa.edu/centers. Additionally, there are more than 100 multicultural student organizations.

The Center for Diversity and Enrichment offers programs and activities that support the ability of underserved students to thrive and succeed. Get details at bit.ly/uicde.
